Whiting School of Engineering Graduate Ceremony

The Johns Hopkins University confers degrees and awards diplomas once a year to all full and part time students who have completed requirements during the preceding spring, fall, or summer semesters.

When and Where

The Whiting School of Engineering Graduate Ceremony will be held on the Homewood Field at the Homewood Campus in Baltimore on Wednesday, May 21. The ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00 pm and lasts approximately two hours. All graduates will be honored on stage.

RSVP - Please!

It is important that you RSVP whether or not you are planning to attend the ceremony. If you are planning to attend the WSE ceremony and do not RSVP, your name will not be listed on the script that is used to call graduates to the stage. You can RSVP by sending an email to jrichard@jhu.edu, or by calling 410-540-2960 or 410-540-2974. Please check your preferred email account for new or updated graduation information. If your contact information has changed, please let us know by emailing epp@jhu.edu

PhD students - We need to know if you are attending the ceremony so that we can:

  1. ensure that your adviser will be present to hood you
  2. ensure your name is on the script
  3. order your hood.

Tickets

No tickets are required.

Time of Arrival

All graduates receiving either a masters degree or certificate must arrive by 6:00 pm for check-in and line-up in the main lobby of the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center. PhD students should arrive by 5:30 pm for check in at the Evans Multi-Purpose Room on the second floor of the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center. Graduates arriving late may be required to line-up at the end of the processional. Additional information about the Whiting School of Engineering's Graduate Ceremony will be mailed May 4. Please ask your guests to go directly to the athletic field to be seated.

Caps and Gowns

Caps and Gowns are required for all graduates. The last day to order your cap and gown online was April 21st. Extras will be available at the Barnes and Noble-Johns Hopkins Homewood bookstore, (410) 662-5850, on a first come, first served basis, beginning May 17th. A limited number of caps and gowns will be available for purchase at the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center prior to the ceremony. No phone or fax orders will be accepted for caps and gowns. Announcements may still be ordered online at www.herffjones.com.

Personal Items

Personal items, such as purses, cameras, etc. may not be carried across the stage. Since you may not be seated in the same seat when you return from the stage, please ask your guests to hold personal items for you until after the ceremony.

Special Services

Degree candidates or guests requiring special assistance or services should contact Toni Riley at 410-540-2962 or triley4@jhu.edu. The map indicates the disabled parking area and wheelchair access facilities. If you wish to drop off disabled guests before parking, please use the area indicated on the map.

Photos

Commencement Photos, Inc. will take pictures as each graduate is being honored on stage. The photographer will contact graduates directly at some point after the event to offer various purchasing options. Commencement Photos telephone number is (978) 851-5924.

Diplomas

Your diploma will be mailed to the address of record. If your address has changed please notify the Registrar's Office.

Reception

All graduates and their guests are cordially invited to attend a reception immediately following the ceremony in the Robert Scott Gym of the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center. Light refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!
